Email Abuse

Yes, this is a rant. I've become totally disgusted with people who continue to use these 'so-called' free email accounts (ie Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.).

I say 'so-called' because there is a cost associated with lost mail and the spam and virii that these accounts harvest. I have never used them and strongly discourage others from doing the same.

Generally, these people never take the time to filter or monitor there insanely small inboxes. As a result, if you send them a few lines of text, it will certainly bounce.

Well, there is a solution to this nuisance. I'm not sure if these guys are similar to Google's gmail, in that using their service, obligates the user to become a unsuspecting marketing participant. Nonetheless, it's worth investigating.

Thanks for the "link love". I agree with you on the fact that people do need to learn to manage their email accounts. With these Mega-Sized Email accounts the learning of that skill won't be encouraged. Now they will have to learn how to search for needed materials.

I'm not sure if the free email services are the root problem of the viruses. Something tells me that it is propagated through corporations with employees that haven't learned not to open attachments on emails that are suspect. Yahoo, Hotmail, and Google all have some type of technology that allows them filter out infected emails.

    Bro,

The key is to manage your email account, and ability to check it frequently. Even with ISP mailboxes, if you do not check on them periodically and delete unneccessary items or archieve them, then you will have your emails bounced. I use Hotmail, because it enables me to check on it everywhere I go. I can archieve the items with OE (Outlook Express) easily retaining those emails I want. And being a free (on my part) service, all I want is ability to access and acquire important email.

If you dont manage your email correctly it wont matter what you use. Sooner or later it will become unmanageable and get out of hand.

Stop all that ranting you Hotmail hater. Hotmail was my e-mail service before I got a computer. The problem is not the service, it's the folks who don't take the time to manage their accounts as fellow respondents PG and Charlene stated.

Come on AL!...Take an old skool chill pill!

People: My objection to the 'free' accts is primarily the mgmt of the acct, not the ISP. I still assert that the majority of the spam is 'spoofed' and directed at these free accts.
